Winter Wonderland at Fairmont Montebello

After driving through an insane white out blizzard arriving at the Fairmont Le Chateau Montebello was a total dream!

If you love nature, cozy fire places, delicious food and endless winter activities in the winter time and being lakeside, enjoying the sunshine with more activities in the summer time this is the place for you! Also...if you just so happen to feel like staying in the largest log structure in the world then you have to stay here!

I had seen pictures of this hotel in all seasons and although the Spring, Summer and Fall look beautiful there was something about the winter time though that seemed so magical! When we booked a trip to Montreal I knew we had to include this amazing resort in our weekend.  Only an hour outside of Montreal, the Fairmont Montebello is a beautifully restored log structure that sits on a massive property in the small town of Montebello, Ottawa.

The hotel is most well known for the main log building as well as the incredible fire place in the center of the lobby lounge area. To be completely honest I was half expecting this hotel to feel like a scene from The Shining  because of how massive it is but I was so impressed when we arrived to instantly feel the magic and liveliness from other guests all enjoying wine and cheese boards cozy by the fire.

Our first morning at the Fairmont was spent exploring the grounds. Each guest receives a map of the property and can use the underground path system to get from the main building to the pool, spa and gym facilities as well as a variety of restaurants and banquet hall areas. We loved visiting the beautifully decorated spa.

The main dining hall is where breakfast, brunch and dinner are served. There are snacks and cocktails served in the main lobby lounge and two other bar/dinging restaurants on the lower level of the hotel. We had Sunday brunch in the main dining hall and were so impressed with the food, service and views of the beautiful frozen and snowy Ottawa River.

After a delicious brunch we headed back up to our hotel room where we had to come to terms with the fact that it wasn't likely it would stop snowing for the rest of the day. Of course blue skies would have been ideal but you really don't have to worry about weather at this hotel there is something to do for everyone at every time of the year in any kind of weather.

We decided to spend the afternoon outside embracing the beautiful snowfall. We started by snowshoeing all around the property into the forest, then skating and then went dog sledding! This Fairmont has a resort fee, which covers a large list of activities including skating, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, pool and gym use etc. If you feel like spending a bit more you can also enjoy a beautiful sleigh ride, winter tubing, dog sledding, snowmobiling, and curling.

Snow shoeing around the property was such a great way to see the grounds and actually enjoy the snow!

Our dog sledding experience was so great! Such an amazing way to see the property with a 4km trail through the woods.

The stunning entry way that immediately makes you feel cozy and welcome! We didn't want to leave!

Thank you so much for having us! We can't wait to come back in the summer.
